Super Eagles and West Bromwich Albion defender, Semi Ajayi, might miss his team’s crucial game against Oxford United.
The 30-year-old, who has been on international duty with Nigeria, was only a late substitute in their 1-0 victory over Libya at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Despite the win, the Nigerian squad, including Ajayi, endured poor treatment from Libyan authorities, being stranded at the airport for over 13 hours without food or internet.
Team captain William Troost-Ekong addressed the situation on his official X account, stating that Nigeria will not play the away fixture against Libya.
Though the Super Eagles are back in Nigeria, Ajayi’s availability for West Brom’s upcoming Championship match on Saturday is uncertain, as per West Brom News. The Baggies are set to face Oxford United, with a chance to move to the top of the Championship standings, just two points behind Sunderland.
Ajayi, who has reclaimed his spot in West Brom’s starting XI, has played in all nine Championship matches this season, helping secure five clean sheets. The club is now focused on his fitness and availability, especially as a potential rematch between Nigeria and Libya may affect his schedule.
