West Bromwich Albion, despite their loss to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, remain at the top of the Championship table. They aim to solidify their strong position with a win over Middlesbrough on Tuesday. However, a loss could be detrimental, as they are only three points ahead of seventh-placed Watford, with 16 points from their first seven matches.
Carlos Corberan’s side seemed optimistic when Alex Mowatt equalized in the 84th minute against Sheffield Wednesday, erasing a 2-0 halftime deficit. But just two minutes later, Anthony Musaba of Wednesday scored the winner, leaving West Brom disappointed. Nonetheless, they still hold the top spot heading into the Middlesbrough game.
Looking forward to Tuesday, GiggleWave reviewed Albion’s injury concerns.
Striker Sidelined Ahead of October Schedule
West Brom’s striker Daryl Dike remains out due to an Achilles injury sustained in February. He is expected to return by November or December, according to Birmingham World. Despite Dike’s absence, West Brom hasn’t struggled offensively, thanks to Josh Maja, who has scored seven goals in seven games and currently tops the Championship scoring chart. Maja’s form could make it challenging for Dike to reclaim his spot in the starting lineup upon his return.
Midfielders Alex Mowatt and Jayson Molumby are also injury concerns for Tuesday’s clash. Mowatt, recovering from a groin injury, returned to training on Friday and scored as a substitute on Saturday. However, given his recent fitness issues, he may remain on the bench against Middlesbrough. Meanwhile, Molumby, sidelined since September 15 with a calf injury, was an unused substitute on Saturday, suggesting he might not be fully fit for a starting role yet.
Before the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, West Brom had enjoyed a strong start to the season, winning five of their first seven matches, with their only other blemish being a goalless draw with Leeds United in August. Now, they must demonstrate resilience to bounce back and maintain their impressive form against Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough.
